tough one, this.
i think i know my answer, but i'd love to know what you think.

what's the best BOOK - the one you enjoyed the most, maybe one you have read lots of times...??

oh please tell me, i'm dying to find out!!

difficult though it is, i think my vote has to be for Bleak House by Charles Dickens - it's immense and entertaining, the characters come alive, and it is brilliantly written, too.

but the book that really got to me when i was a nipper was Fall of Moondust by Arthur C Clarke - it is responsible for my lifelong love of science fiction.

I have too many favourites....Favourite Author, rather...even then...difficult...Am I being snobbish if I said....Favourite Book: Dictionary! Preferably...OED?

I can't answer that...no real favourite...if I'm reading something that is enthralling me then, at that moment in time, that's my favourite book..then the next one does the same and so on... But sci-fi has always been my favourite fiction reading and fantasy now too...GBHs...XXX

Got to be Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy( Red Blue and Green Mars) Love this and it would be great as a film or mini-series. Plans are a foot but no more news recently.

As a kid , The Magic Faraway Tree, and slightly older, Jane Eyre, I don't have a favourite as an adult but some om my favourite reads include An English Patient, beautifully written prose, and factual books, anything mystical

Oh God this is far too hard, a recent and excellent book is city of thieves by david benioff - excellent read. And I am just re-reading Isabel Allende - Aphrodite which is a wonderful book

Blimey. Bridges of Maddison County is good as was Steinbecks Of Mice and Men. McCarthys Bar is fantastic. Bill Brysons Lost Continent never fails to make me giggle and for an oldie how about Candide by Voltaire???????
Nope can't decide on a definitive fave. Sorry......

ooh, anything by Matthew Reilly gets my vote, reread all of his about 3 times already.

A Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett also a favourite from childhood recently re-read and loved.

    one of our dreams is to either have a separate 'library' with big comfy chairs and a ladder, or a room with a mezzanine floor with bookshelves all round the edges.

Can't tell you one fave...but...

Childhood favourite has to be 'Malory Towers' by Enid Blyton...then I discovered the Brontes...'Jane Eyre' is my next favourite. I love Austen and 'Great Expectations' by Dickens...

More recently, 'The English Patient,' 'Lovely Bones'...anything by Picoult...really enjoying Julian Fellowes 'Past Imperfect' at the moment. I also enjoy Phillipa Gregory's novels, 'The Other Bolyn Girl' etc

Collins Bird Guide, closely followed by a Readers Digest trilogy - Field guide to the Butterflies and Other Insects of Britain, Trees and Shrubs of Britain, and Animals of Britain

Good grief all this high falutin hoity toity literature. Mine is very pedestrian. The title is "Child of the Morning" by a Canadian writer named Pauline Gedge. She writes novels about ancient Egypt which is a passion of mine. The book is about the only female Pharaoh Hatshepsut.
I intend to someday see her temple at Deir-el-Bahri.

I'd have to say The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks although I have recently read The Book Thief which is an incredibly beautiful book. If you haven't read it I couldn't recommend it highly enough
