hitch-hikers - you don't see them very often do you? they used to be everywhere.
i suppose it's another sign that people are generally better off.
the people who used to have to hitch-hike, now have their own cars ...
and i suppose we are all so paranoid about being robbed and duffed up, we're less likely to stop for them, aren't we?

this has set me off wondering about what else has disappeared ...

i feel lots more posts coming on!

I have not hitched a lift for years. I used to quite enjoy it. You are right, I have not seen others doing it for ages.

Cor, it's hard thinking of things that don't seem to exist!

But - what about motorcycle sidecars? Don't see many of them except at 'classic' shows.

And what happened to Teasmade (spelling?) machines? Do they exist still?

You don't see those big refresher sweets much...I mean, you do, but they are no way as big as they used to be! And liquorice wheels with that sweet in the middle in a 10p mix from the corner shop....they are all pre-packaged now! And red licquorice sticks...and...

You don't see very much hitch-hiking hereabouts in the Winter or early Spring. In the season, there are quite a few hikers to be seen, all nationalities.

There are one or two people who used to do it regularly year in year out. You got to recognise them and if you could, you stopped and helped out. Public transport isn't brilliant. I occasionally see one of the guys, but the other one may by now have hitched a ride to higher places.

It can be too cold here to hang about waiting for rides. Wind chill is a factor to be aware of.
