  the kinks song was controversial at the time because it sounded a bit like lola was a transvestite.
  the lolita story was even more controversial because it was about a very young girl. but i don't think anyone made up a song about her.

They are both wonderfully written and performed songs, but my personal preference goes to The Kinks, and that's not just because I play that one myself. Oh no.

And wasn't it "Old Soho" rather than "Old Kent Road"?
