that people who talk the most have the least to say?
that people who complain about being busy all the time, actually have very little to do?
that you can take a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead?
i only ask because on my saturday island inspection i saw an awful lot of people just standing around talking.
not just any talking, but proper animated talking, with feeling and lots of finger jabbing and vigorous head nodding.
they were still there as i completed my circuit.
on second viewing, i noticed they were all carrying something that suggested they were on important business - like a shopping bag, or a tool box.
you can imagine them getting back home, puffing out their cheeks and trying to find excuses for the fact that they've taken all day over buying a loaf or putting a shelf up...
'i met old ethel and she told me about the rubbish in her back passage, and, well, you have to look interested, don't you?'
some people make an art form out of doing very little, don't they? they're the ones who talk the most in meetings at work.
presumably they have much less stressful lives than the rest of us.
hmmmm - i wonder if you can go to night classes to learn how to do this.
on the other hand, it would be too much trouble to turn out on a cold night, wouldn't it?
