have you been able to work out what period of history we've been looking at?
well, i'll give you a clue, it wasn't 1930 - that's half past seven at night in old money.
see if this nugget of information helps you pin it down ...
lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. the combination would sometimes knock a drinker out for a couple of days. someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.
they were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up.
hence the custom of holding a wake.
of course, these days, we do things much more efficiently. we drink vodka straight out of the bottle.
we get our lead intake by chewing pencils.
and instead of crashing out on the kitchen table, we throw up on the bus on the way to work, then fall asleep at our desks, where no-one will notice.
