i don't smoke any more but i blame my mum for getting me started.
my dad admitted he used to smoke but gave it up after he left the RAF.
but my mum was whiter than white and said what a filthy habit it was.
one day, she asked me to look for something- a bracelet, i think.
and i looked in the drawers in her bedroom - and what did i find tucked underneath her knickers?
a packet of players and a box of matches!
she then admitted under interrogation that she did have the occasional one, bless her.
and i felt duty bound to have the occasional one, too.
i rather enjoyed it but i only smoked after meals.
i had ten meals a day.
i found it easy to give up. in fact, i'm sure i gave up every year.
my only regret, now i've stopped, is that i never tried roll-ups.
i still fancy trying them ...
if my mum was still alive, i know she wouldn't approve.
but she wouldn't dare tell me off.
