when i was little, it was a proud moment when mum allowed me to go to the corner shop to get some milk or bread.

I wasn't sent shopping but to the library to return mums books. I stood there, pushed the books over to the nice lady and then promptly wet myself! I still remember to this day the horror of it all. I stood there in a pool with a very worried look on my face and then ran all the way home!

awww, you poor thing.
and yet today's kids seem so bloomin' confident don't they?
doesn't seem real, somehow.
i;m a confident person now, but there's something about waiting in line at a shop and rehearsing your lines just so i don't make a fool of myself.
crazy!

My worst 'shopping as a kid' moment was when I came out of the village shop with mum's order and dropped the bag. And a bottle of Lime Corona smashed. I was absolutely mortified by being the centre of a scene. I think that incident has made me the shy, retiring person I am today.

i know - things like that were so traumatic weren't they?
we were much more sensitive as kids than they seem to be now - unless that's just an illusion.

My first independent shopping trip was when I found ten pence down the back of the sofa and promptly ran all the way to the sweet shop and spent it all on blackjacks and parma violets. I didn't appreciate at the time that the reason all the adults were smiling at me was because I was still in my pyjamas.
I hasten to add that I was only 4.
