i'm slowly becoming convinced of the theory that dogs and their owners look alike.
there was a bloke out this morning, with his ugly pug dog.
and when i looked at his face to say good morning, it was uncanny.
i nearly threw him a stick to chase.
also, you see a lot of older couples who look the same.
have you noticed that?
it's almost like evolution in miniature - facial expressions and mannerisms adapting to each other, maybe.
so i've decided - doris has to go.
i really do not want to look like doris.
i don't even want a dog that looks like doris.
or cherie blair, come to think of it.
i'm going to have to tell her .. somehow...

I suppose you'd need to know his character and looks to fully appreciate the funny side of that moment, but he ran off and from then on would run away if ever he saw me wearing the crash-helmet, as if I turned into some dog-beating alien or something. Anyway, a few years later, he started messing, and he was really sweet but being a Jack he was also bolshy, funnily so, and I noticed he only did it if he didn't get out for a walk, even though he happily would use the garden as a toilet any other time, much as we'd rather he didn't; he killed a palm tree by incessantly peeing on it! Well although some months had passed since the death of my father, I found walking Chas was overloading my sensibilities, as I tend toward agoraphobia during stressful times, and his messing as a result was adding to the stress, so one night I put his bed in the utility room where his food was, and as he was eating I said goodnight and put the light out, that was the second mistake, there's no window in the utility room. I'd not considered how bad his hearing and sight was, as although both were failing quite alot he was so spritely and bouncy and loving you'd never have thought it. I just didn't think how dark it would be. Unfortunately the next morning I opened the door and he was sort of wedged as best he could into a corner. He came stumbling out and for the following week he continued to stumble. I think I'd given him a stroke or something, but the vet said he had a brain tumour, he could tell by his taught back, and after a few days of treatment didn't, help he was 'put out of his misery'. I'm a little tearful now, he was a beautiful little dog, lovely character and we had many laughs together, but the helmet incident which I believe was the start was typical of the funny situations we'd find ourselves in, like fishing him out of a frozen duckpond on his harness after he'd jumped on the ice, he passed the pond every day and never once showed any interest in it! So I can't help but laugh, cos he did that to me.
I don't look like my bald hubby...HLOL...and my mannerisms aren't like his either...I don't sit on the floor to watch TV which he does when there's a perfectly comfortable sofa to sit on...and slop my food everywhere while eating...
