backing up

got a new back up system for my computer, which will automatically save everything, every day.
if anything ever goes wrong, i'll be able to retrieve every file.
it's a clever devil, working away for the first time while i'm talking to you.

it's telling me it's backing up...

817,181 items

which equals 230 gigabytes of memory.

i suppose most of it is photos and video footage, but it's amazing how much crap you accumulate isn't it?

at this rate, i'm going to have to leave the computer on overnight.
but who knows what it'll get up to...

will it download dodgy movies while i'm not looking?
log into online poker and do crazy things to my online bank account?
use my desk top publishing software to draw beards and moustaches on my prize family photos?

it's no use - i'll have to stay up late tonight!

if it is going to do this every day you will have to stay up every night!
Can you set it to just back up what has changed without overwriting previous saves?

  don't worry - it just does this the first time, then only saves anything that has changed....phew!
  
  i suppose i'll have to leave it and trust it now, i'm making himalyan lamb with green chilli - and it needs my attention - want some?

    sounds good. Love lamb curry, although i must admit I have never had one from the Himalayas. You went a long way for that joint

      that lamb was a good climber.
      finally caught up with it at about 25,000 feet.

Ha! Well, tell it not to bother chatting up my PC. Mine's already shared a cold with Tylluan's this week, and it has behaved so badly over the last two days that I've stopped it's pocket money. So it's sulking in its room and not coming out to play. Ok?

I'll bet your 'puter will spend all night watching TV while you're not looking... my fish used to you know... I'd get up in the morning and the side of the TV would be warm... none of the fish would look me in the eye.. it was obvious really...

  the computer is pretty tired - it was up all night. finished backing up as i was having morning tea in bed.
  about time it earned its keep!
